Square.80
Square.80
Breaking the Grid
square.80 is about stepping outside the ordinary. Instead of following the classic rule form follows function, its design began with a bold visual idea. The result: a sculptural piece that merges elegance, craftsmanship, and curiosity.
Its surface is built from rounded half-cylinders of solid ash, black-stained to highlight the natural grain. A solid brass structure breaks the organic rhythm, dividing the body into geometric frames that define its functions. Dark, patinated brass plates extend to the floor, forming a base that lifts the volume and gives it a floating presence.
Behind the striking pattern lies a clever grid-based substructure (80×80 mm), which not only inspired the name but also enables precision in construction and functionality. Drawers, flaps, and hidden compartments are seamlessly integrated—revealing their use only upon closer inspection. Walnut interiors add a warm contrast to the dark exterior.
From afar, square.80 could be mistaken for a sculpture. Up close, it reveals itself as an extraordinary piece of furniture: refined, unconventional, and designed to spark curiosity again and again.

Building of
The purpose and expectation for this build were to test myself in many different ways. First, to see how strong my crafting skills really are and how they hold up under pressure. Secondly, to test my patience. And finally, to see how well I can personally handle pressure and how my character changes under such conditions.
Afterwards, I can definitely say it exceeded my expectations. In total, I invested around 600 hours over the course of two months, often working late into the night filming and editing the process. During that time, I lost about 12 kg of body weight and gained a few gray hairs—but the result speaks for itself.
I am proud, extremely happy with the outcome, and would do it all over again. It was a time that changed me and will always remain a great memory.
